Gay Marriage, North Carolina, and President Obama - May 9, 2012 by admin

One of the important stories of the week was North Carolina’s primary elections and the vote for its Amendment One, which would ban gay marriage in the state. The amendment was approved, which spurred a large number of topic-related quotes on the social networks:

“North Carolina: Where you can marry your cousin – just not your gay cousin.”

“Claiming that someone else’s marriage is against your religion is like being angry at someone for eating donuts because you are on a diet.”

“If you have to make a law that hurts a number of people, just to prove your morals or faith, then you have no true morals or faith to prove.”

Some people felt that NC was not concentrating on the right issues.

“So you voted to ban gay marriage in North Carolina? That will totally help with your fifth highest unemployment rate in the USA.”

President Obama finally made a stand on the issue with his statement,

“I think same sex couples should be able to get married.”
