What People Think I Do Meme - February 15, 2012 by admin

A popular meme this past week takes a look at different careers and activities. Each activity is presented as an image with several photos.

Each photo shows the activity as viewed by a different person or group with a caption that includes the words “What my — think I do.” Fill in the blank with just about anyone, mother, friends, society, etc.

This is best describe by example, so here are a few “What I do” images. I tend to focus on Theatre, as that is what I am into, but I’ve seen this meme represent other jobs like teacher or lobbyist.

Romney vs Obama - January 25, 2012 by admin

As the race for president heats up here in the United States, it is no surprise that people post images supporting their favorite candidate.

There is an image comparing Mitt Romney and President Obama that shows Romney having his shoes shined and looking very comfortable being pampered. Next to this is a photo of Obama fist-bumping a person who appears to be a maintenance worker at the White House.

The idea, of course, is that Mitt is rich and will place the wealthy above the lower classes if he should be elected, while Obama is a man of the people – the working class.

It should be interesting to see what other images pop up in the next year as election day draws ever closer.

Learning About Afterimage or Why Is This Woman So Negative? - January 25, 2012 by admin

The image of a beautiful woman has been making the rounds in the social network sites. The most noticeable feature of this image is that it is a photographic negative.

Photographic negative used to demonstrate afterimage.

Viewers are asked to stare at the red star on the woman’s nose for 30 seconds and then look at away. You could also close your eyes.

After staring at the image for a period of time, the negative is temporarily “burned” onto your retinas. When you look at a light surface or close your eyes, you can see a color image of the woman for several seconds. This is known as an afterimage.

Darth Vader Lists Luke as Son on Facebook - January 25, 2012 by admin

Speaking of Star War themed images popular on Facebook, here’s one depicting an unwanted family relation confirmation request. It seems Darth Vader has found his son on FB and wants Luke to confirm the relationship.

It seems Luke Skywalker would rather not confirm his father’s request, but can any of us really change our destiny?

Betty White Becomes a Jedi on Her 90th Birthday - January 25, 2012 by admin

Betty White turned 90 recently, and there have been a few memes (especially graphics) appearing in the cloud to celebrate the event.

One of the more interesting graphics shows Betty wielding two light sabers, as her friends from “The Golden Girls” look on in the guise of deceased Jedi Masters.

While 90 isn’t 900, this does remind me of the other recent Star Wars related image with Yoda. All of us should look as good as Betty when we turn 90.

What Really Happened with the Mayan Calendar (2012) - January 13, 2012 by admin

While most people seem to think it’s just a lark, the press, in its continual search for sensationalism, continues to remind everyone that the end of the world is coming this year. It seems the ancient Mayan calendar ends in December of 2012, so that could mean everything ends at that time.

One explanation for the calendar ending in 2012 has been offered in a cartoon that is making the rounds on the social networks. It seems the creator of the calendar simply ran out of room, and 2012 was as far as he could go.

Perhaps the world will not end this year. Although… we should live life as if it were.

I Want to Be Happy - November 9, 2011 by admin

I’ve seen this a few times now on Facebook. John Lennon must have been a very precocious five year old.

Quote attributed to John Lennon

“When I was five years old, my mother always told me that happiness was the key to life. When I went to school, they asked me what I wanted to be when I grew up. I wrote down ‘happy.’ They told me I didn’t understand the assignment, and I told them they didn’t understand life.”

You Should Look So Good - November 7, 2011 by admin

I’m a fan of both Star Wars and Doctor Who, so when I saw this, I just had to share it. Okay, I like Muppets, too.

It’s Yoda vs Doctor Who. Who looks better at 900 years old?

Got Something Against Gay Marriage? Well, Do You, Punk? - November 4, 2011 by admin

Are you feeling lucky?

If you are, you might like to share this image on Facebook. Clint Eastwood doesn’t care who gets married. Gay marriage isn’t a big deal. Maybe he can convince some people to be tolerant.

Is it pi or cake? - November 4, 2011 by admin

This image of a pi cake is being shared on Facebook.

People who like math get it.

Still, it’s a bit of a puzzle.
